Il libro è una ricognizione, nell’universo mutevole e continuamente in divenire, di pratiche, metodi, progetti e realizzazioni che negli ultimi vent’anni stanno cambiando le città d’Europa. L’ambizione è quella di dare pensiero e immagine a metodi progettuali che, a partire da contesti urbani economici e sociali assolutamente diversi tra loro delineano un progetto urbano europeo. Con i saggi critici di Giuseppe Marinoni e le fotografie di Giovanni Chiaramonte, il libro cerca le ragioni dell’evoluzione della città europea, attraverso le multiformi pratiche progettuali, svelate nel concreto di parti di città costruite e abitate secondo le emergenti dinamiche sociali ed economiche che muovono l’evoluzione urbana: nuove aspirazioni abitative, nuovi usi, necessità di riqualificare frange industriali e infrastrutturali obsolete, diverse modalità di riorganizzazione degli investimenti finanziari.

This book is a recognition, in a universe that is continually changing and evolving, of practices, methods, projects, and achievements that have been altering the cities of Europe in the last twenty years. The ambition is to give thought and image to planning methods, starting from economic and social urban contexts that are extremely diverse, outline a European urban project. With the critical essays of Giuseppe Marinoni and the photographs of Giovanni Chiaramonte, the book seeks the reasons behind the evolution of the European city, through multiform planning practices that are revealed in the concreteness of parts of the city constructed and inhabited according to the emerging social and economic dynamics that drive urban evolution: new living aspirations, new uses, the necessity of upgrading fringe industries and obsolete infrastructures, and diverse modalities of reorganization of financial investments.
